Much has been talked about when it comes to “Airtime Fairness” and 802.11. Why does it matter? Well, its really crucial when it comes to the speed at which 802.11 and “wi-fi” devices are advancing to optimize a network for operation with a wide range of devices.
Because of the nature of Wi-Fi, creating a network that is optimized to allow for high-speed devices to coexist with lower speed devices (both legacy devices that may exist as well as smaller, low power devices like wi-fi enabled smartphones) is crucial.
In the next couple of videos, Dr. Bharghavan discusses the reasoning behind “Airtime Fairness” between standard Wi-Fi clients and how it is achieved in a Meru network.
