Virtual Cell Demystified! (Part 1)

by Joel on November 12, 2009

Many in the wireless world believe that there is one way to deploy a wireless LAN that is Wi-Fi Certified and that we have to adapt our life and experiences and now businesses around the limitations that are inevitably a part of a Wi-Fi network that is deployed pervasively.

What if we told you there are wireless networks and then there are Meru Networks.  Meru Networks are designed from the ground up for deployment in an enterprise that has hundreds and even thousands of access points.  A system that works in unison, based on micro-second timing, and accounts for interference that is inevitable in a system.  We’re not talking a system that can avoid a microwave oven, thats easy.  But a system that allows nieghboring access points to be aware of each other, coordinate the traffic and communications, increase parallelism in the system, and ultimately change the experience a user has with Wi-Fi in the enterprise.

In this video series, Dr. Bharghavan demystifies how this coordinated system works and the amazing benefits of such a system.  Ultimately, he gives detailed insight into how a system could be so fundamentally different, focused on the end-user, and simply make the experience of using Wi-Fi pervasively in an enterprise as easy and seamless as it is in one’s home.  Enjoy and feel free to leave questions in the comments section and we’ll answer them right away!

    Hello,
I am a student in Montreal, I am preparing a project on the virtualization of access points.
I would like to have details of the access points from Meru. Is it possible to have multiple virtual APs in each Physic AP , and to manage each AP logical or not?
Thank you and have a good day.
  • Baya - Glad to hear you're working on such a worthy project! If you fill out your information on our contact page and mention the blog post we can get you all the information you need!

Thank you for your advice. I posted my question on the site of Meru. And I expect a response.

This is only the first of more than a dozen videos we're rolling out to explain what goes into an enterprise wireless system!

    Thanks!
